Springfield XD-9

Post by markIIIronp » Fri May 09, 2008 6:11 pm

Don't have it in my possession yet, but I just purchased a XD9710HCSP06 to carry concealed. This is a 9mm with V10 ported slide with a mag capacity of 16 rounds and a 4 inch barrel. This is my first center fire pistol and I am anxious to get it and fire it. Any pointers would be appreciated. What is the best ammo to use for conceal carry? The specs list trigger pull at 5.5 to 7.7 lbs. This seems like a lot of effort. Is this too much or does it need to be this stiff to be safe? :D

as your first Ctr-Fire, the trigger-pull will be stiff!
and the recoil (when using defence-ammo) will be a new experience.

just relax and start buying some clean-burning practice-ammo...

You can worry about the pull-weight AFTER YOU adjust to the pistol.
I hear good things about the XD... but I kinda like my Glock.

and (God forbid) should you ever have to USE the XD...
you'll never even notice the trigger-pull being 6lbs !!! ;)

good luck, let us know how you like/adjust to it...
Clean, inspect, lube it first! oh-yeah... 'WelCome to GunTalk'

Thanks for the advice, toy. Also, why is the caliber listed as 9x19MM on the XD specs, but all the ammo I see advertised is referred to as Luger 9MM?

let's see what I can recall without looking anything up...

the typical common "9mm" that we all know and love is
the "9mm Luger" or 9mm-diameter and 19mm "long"
(but I forget if the brass is 19mm exactly what it measures)

there is a 9mmX18mm 'Makarov'
and the 9mmX17mm or .380acp

see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makarov_PM

here's more than you want to know...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9mm

so, the short answer is that there are a LOT of "9mm" dia bullets
and your new XD is just being sure that you know to use the
"9mm x 19" (ie. Luger) size...

AND they are NOT interchangeable... at first glance they are
pretty much alike... but after a little handling you begin to
notice right away which brass at the range is .380 or 9mm or ...

I'm sure others will correct/expand my post...
take care... -- toy
