I'll try again...
but the toothpick is inserted into a rough-drilled hole
in the midst of the checkered-plug.
my slightly out-of-focus closeup makes the remaining "checkered ring"
appear to be a machined ring-guide for the full-length guide rod...

no, I do not have a (custody) provenance...
and likely do not want to know... 8)

If memory serves me correctly the standard cap or recoil spring plug has a closed end and is checkered, only the full length guide rod caps have a hole in the and it is a much larger hole than the one shown.

Rob, when you are talking about the cap are you referring to the one that the shooter is wearing or to the recoil spring plug?

Think I would just order a new plug and forget it.

Holey Moley, there is someone out there klutzier than I am. I'd have used a sharper phillips screwdriver.

I find that statement hard to believe, I didn't think that person existed. Rob,I thought you had Klutz market cornered? Wonder what he or she thought they were going to acomplish by drilling that hole. At least the pistol is usable and the hole will not have ay effect on it's operation other than making Tex a little upset.

Obviously a DIY mod for whatever reason. Get a new spring plug and don't look back.

Figured you had some send Big Tex one, then he can shoot the 1911 without being self conscious, Blasted cold weather here, have not shot any of mine in some time. Sure do miss the indoor range I used to belong to that closed a year ago.

Next one will be 900

But who's counting?

For all the chatter about a cosmetic detail, looks like a pretty good LCP backup.

Evidently me, but keep the .45 for the primary and carry the LCP in the other side pocket for and other hand gun, I carry the Micro strong side back pocket and the P3AT left side pocket. That little .380 is a handful no matter what hand you use but it will get the job done, Ain't no target shooter but it will put the whole mag on the paper pretty well at 7 yards, and that's all it has to do.

I did my best at the "Santa Shop" to just point out the flaws
and only got the price down to something close to the "internet discount value"...

One thought I had was that the only people that would see it
are not exactly going to bother pointing out the 'flaw'... :!:

BE: thanks for the "offer", a replacement is already on my order-list
along with a couple W-C-mags and Rubber-grips...

my original post was just wondering 'Why' ?
I intended to replace it from the start.

as a backup to the LCP (Elsie Pea)...
the .380 95gr load calls for 3.0gr of powder at 800fps
the .45 230gr load calls for 4.1gr of powder at 750fps
so how much difference can about 1.1 grains of powder make??

as we also mentioned the Recoil-Spring...
I looked closer at my 3-4 manuals/books and a couple
webpages for Detail-Dis/assembly...
and I did not notice any mention of Recoil Spring Orientation.
However, (my two examples) the closed-end of the spring is
ever so slightly smaller to provide a hold on the (short) guide-rod,
with the open-end providing a loose-fit.
This "seems" to indicate that the closed/tight-end would be on the rod
and the open-end would fit into the "plug"...

Am I wrong?
(I was in the forest and spoke with no woman present... am I still wrong? )

seeing as how 'OldMan' is getting within spittin-distance of 1000-postings,
perhaps he should have just been labeled "Ye Olde Pharte"...
then upon reaching 1000 could be called "Ye Grand Olde Pharte"...

unrelated: over the holiday travels, a radio-talk-host joked
"I do NOT believe in re-incarnation... but I did in a previous life..."

You got the right idea on the spring Tex. On my full size gun I use a small radius firing pin stop and a shok buff also. That along with a 200 grain LSWC, with 6.5 grains af Green Dot it makes a real great practice and economical shooting load and it will eve make my 2 short barrel 45's run. Kind of a try it and see what works program and when that load kept working in all 3 of my 45's I called it good and just used it. As far as a new name at 1K, we will leave that up to Bullseye. I don't load anything for the P3AT, just shoot some factory hard ball and 90 grain Hornady JHP/XTP for a carry load. The little KelTec and your Elsie Pea are a little nasty to be a fun shooter but do get a couple of mags through it about once a month to make sure it works.

Take care Tex, glad to know that you now own and shoot a real GUN!!!!!!!!

Tex, by the way, I use nothing but Wilson Combat mags in all of my guns, because they have functioned flawlessly in all three. I can even use the full size mags in the little guns but they do stick out a little. Having 6 or7 for each gun will give me a lot of fire power.
As far as grips I like the Hogue wraparounds, bought my V-10 used and it had a set on it and I liked it. Have some really nice wood grips for all of the 45's but have a set of Hogues on each of them. They just feel good in your hand.

Your big, old, fat, slow 230gr load has about 2x the kinetic energy as the zippy little 95gr .380. Not that I'd volunteer to stand down range and take a few .380's to show they don't hurt.
