On the plus side George, look how much you've learned. Really, the little amount of wear that you have pictured on your 1911 is nothing to worry about. Don't get overly concerned over this, your pistols fine. You really don't need a buffer in it at all.

Exactly, Bullseye. The fact that the wear is minimal is another reason why I'm reluctant to tweak around with the pistol.

As always thank you everyone for your replies :D .

Well, the reduced thickness shock buff did not buff much of the shock :P It pretty much fell apart after less than 50 rounds.

Here is a picture of the buff if anyone is interested:

Pretty much to be expected after thinning it out as much as you had to. I use mine at full factory width, the spring is what eats into the plastic.
You have great day and shoot straight and may the Good Lord smile on you.

OK this is going to bug me all day if I don't ask, when you guys are talking about the radius of the firing pin stop, are you refering to the curved part at the bottom that the hammer cams against? and is this custom made or can you buy them somewhere? Thanks

I'm sorry I must not have explained it right, I was asking about the firing pin stop with the smaller radias. It sounds like somthing I'd like to try just to see how it works.

There ya go, I had to do a little research to find one first, This one has a sharp corner and you can stone or file on any radius you want, this is not a drop in part and will take some fitting. I got mine from a friend on a 1911 forum the guy is an expert on 1911's goes bye the screen name of 1911Tuner, an ex marine I believe who really knows the gun. I got mine from him seversl years ago.

Thanks, that answers my question. I might have to get one and tinker with it and see what happens.

With my handloads, I use a 14 pound spring, the small radius stop and a shok buff, it works for me others opinions may vary.
