I'm in the market for a few new replacement mags for my Gov. Model 1911 and I was wondering which mags to buy. I've found pretty decent prices on Springfields mags, and of course the premium mags from Wilson, etc., are pricy but you would expect great quality there. So, any suggestions from the fine folks at GTO?

I have never tried any Springfield mags but I have 2 wilson mags and they function flawlessly. They should for what they cost though.

I shoot full size and compact 1911's and use mostly
wilson mags with the pad other than the ones that camew wiith my
sa guns, Use 7 and 8 round mags, have no use for the 10 rounder as they stick oput to much. The Wilsons haave worked fine for many rounds now.

Thanks BandOM, I too stick with the 7 - 8 rounders. I guess I'll get a couple of Wilson's mags.

Think I have 6 of each ofr the full size and the compact size SA's, don 't like to reload when I at the range just like to keep shooting. My carry mags are the fluch fitting stock SA mags as they fir totally fluch. Rarely carry the full size fun, mostly the Micro Compact ot the V-10.

I have 4, two 8-rounders that came with the Taurus and two that I'd need a magnifying glass to see who made them. Bought those two for $20 with 50 rounds of ammo thrown in. All work fine. Lately, I've been loading 5 rounds in one mag and reloading that mag at the range. A 10-rounder would be interesting, but the price would have to be very attractive.

I've had very good luck (and found great prices) with the McCormick mags.

Wilson 8 round mags here - Work every time in my Kimber...

Well, I bought a Springfield Armory mag and a Wilson mag. I thought I would see how they performed and then buy more based on my findings.

Both magazines performed flawlessly in the gun. No problems whatsoever.

The Wilson has a plastic follower, that actually seems to make loading the mag faster, smoother, and easier on the fingers. The Springfield's follower is metal and had a tendency to cock front to rear when loading the first round, sometimes resulting in a slight pinch to the finger.

In summary, the Wilson is a real nice magazine, but cost considerably more than the Springfield Armory. Since I am only going to purchase a couple more mags, I'm going with the Wilson brand.
