.44 Magnum in a Judge

Post by greener » Sat Apr 18, 2009 8:11 pm

I was chatting with a nice couple who were shooting a number of handguns today. They had a Taurus Judge and a never-fired Vaquero .44 Magnum purchased for $195. They saw me picking up brass and said they would collect what they were shooting for me. A bit later they brought me a box of brass and mentioned that the he had unintentionally loaded and fired .44 mag in the Judge. I said I was surprised it fired the .44 and surprised that it handled the pressure. He said it had a lot of recoil but fired the rounds pretty well. When I was sorting through the box of brass, I found four rounds that looked like this:

The word I would use isn't very polite and starts with an "M"
An empty weapon is just a very expensive hammer.

They probably had no idea that those cases where ruptured. Hopefully they won't make that mistake again.
