FEG PA-63 good CCW/SD weapon?

Post by hotroderx » Sat Mar 12, 2011 1:35 am

Does the FEG PA-63 make a good SD weapon its chambered in 9x18. Its extremely accurate and after a recoil spring change it isn't punishing on the hand. Its a lot of fun to shoot and I feel more confident having it chambered then I do my Glock.

You may get a wide variety of opinions on this question. If you feel comfortable with a .380 ACP as SD carry gun, then the 9x18mm should be fine. There's only a slight difference between these two cartridges with the edge going to the 9x18. I personally like a little more power for SD and typically use a G-27 for my CC weapon.

That cartridge is a little light in my opinion also. Myself I prefer the .45ACP and have carried an SA Micro for year, but for ease of concealment and the lightweight in my older years, I now carry a J frame in .38 PlusP
You have great day and shoot straight and may the Good Lord smile on you.

If you feel confidant with it, it is comfortable for you, and you can get good Hollow point ammo.... I say it is a fine choice.

If it is the right compromise for YOU then go with it.

Every handgun is a compromise of various factors, including (but not limited to):
Hand comfort
Carry comfort
Concealment
Capacity
Power
Accuracy
Reliability
Looks
Reload sowns
Holsters
Price
Ammo cost/availability
Mag cost/avaibility

I don't think 9x18 is underpowered, it beats. 380acp and launches from larger platforms than p3at/lcp/tcp/p380, which should be easier to shoot well. Silver Bear hollowpoints are cheap, reliable, and pretty good. I stock them for a cz82 based on brassfetcher's testing and my own.

I got one that's about 10yrs old and it's OK but I think of it as a backup caliber only. I much prefer my KT 3AT for back up and carry my 1911 for primary most of the time. It's really all in what you want.. :)
