Taurus, Public Defender Polymer?

Post by Gatmandu » Sun Apr 24, 2011 2:49 pm

Hi Guys,

New here, so if this has been discussed before I apologize in advance. :D

Taurus, Public Defender Polymer, Model 4510PLY-SS2. Just wondering what your take is on it? Does anyone own one?

I don't want to make this a pi$$ing contest about Taurus quality. I own 2 Tauruses that are just fine. I also bought one which was a piece of crap.

Thanks in advance for your inputs........ :D

Slightly lighter weight version of the Judge. I've fired a Judge. Accuracy with .45 Colt was acceptable. Fired 410 with birdshot and had a huge pattern at 10'. Fair amount of recoil.

My guess is that the poly version will shoot about the same, have a fair amount of recoil and not conceal as well as your snubby revolver. It will be an OK snake gun and a short range SD revolver. After shooting a Judge, I decided that style is not my cup of tea. However, I may be in a small minority. Judge's sell well, Taurus is adding models quickly and S&W got into the game.

Hi greener,

One of the other revolvers I have is a 3" chambered Judge in stainless. I've shot quite a bit of 45 Colt though it and just a few 3", #4 buckshot. I have no complaints with it. It's a "sweet heart" compared to my snubby.

Glad you brought it up. S&W is now making a Judge (Ooopps, "Governor")? Also chambers 45 APC? What's up with these "moon clips"?

I see I'm in the minority on the Taurus Judge

Moon clips are for rimless cartridges. They also make a fair speed loader.

I would say a judge would make a nice backpacking/trail/fun gun. hand tossed clays with it would be a hoot. good for small game at close range, snakes, and even bear defense...

looks pretty veristile to me.

The S&W "Governor":
Awesome! Now that would compliment any SD arsenal.

Hi Haka,

I have read all kinds of negative remarks about the Judge. However, I own a 3" chambered S/S Judge and it sits loaded with #4 buckshot in my underware drawer (I can't think of anyone who would go through my underware drawer  ).

When I was seeking advice on what is best for home defense, everybody told me a shotgun (makes sense). The only down-side to a shotgun I saw was they are a bit of a problem to "swing" in a hallway. So I bought the Judge. Problem solved. :D

Anyway, S&W must have recognized what has been selling and brought out their version. Looks good :!:

You can also fire .44 mag from a Judge. It's probably not a good idea and could have very unpleasant results. The brass looks like this

Hi greener,

I think I'll pass on that experiment.

Question; if the S&W Governor can shoot 45 ACPs with a "moon ring".....why couldn't you do the same with the Judge?
