Open Carry Favorite

Post by charlesb » Sun Apr 06, 2014 10:36 pm

There is apparently some discussion in Austin Texas about loosening up the gun laws here in Texas, including open carry.

My family and I talked this evening about what we would carry around in a holster, if this came about.

I have an Astra A-100 in .40 caliber that is too heavy to carry concealed, but might be passable for open carry with a sturdy belt. I have 10 and 13 round magazines for it, the ten round is a bit lighter so I'd probably use that.

Because of its size and weight, the Astra has been a hideout gun for over a decade, now. It has spent the bulk of its time in a drawer. - I take it out to shoot it, clean it, and reload it once a year, whether it needs it or not. The gun is utterly reliable, has never messed up in any way.

My son says he would carry his classic Walther P-38.

If I had my druthers, I'd probably opt for a Colt single action army, but I don't have one of those.

What would be your favorite hog-leg for open carry?

My duty gun is open carried daily.... a glockenspiel 22 ... but for the cool factor I would opt for the 629 mountain gun, 4" 44mag ... kinda a different tale on dirty Harry I guess. ..

I know I probably would not open carry but if I did it would probably be a toss up between 2. My Python 6" 357 Mag is to large for conceal carry so it would be a good choice then a full size 1911.

If I were to open carry, it would likely be my concealed choice, my LCR-357. It's the only gun I own of adequate SD caliber, and even in the open, I'd want a small lightweight package. A Fobus holster would be good with it. A big "hawg laig" would be a nuisance.

open carry

Being in Michigan, which is open carry AND a cpl friendly state, I'm not a big advocate of open carry. I agree with it legally, but, see it as a billboard to those who are intent on disarming you, those gang bangers who will take it away from you when you least expect it.

Since we are so cpl friendly, I'd much rather carry covered and safe.

That being said, I've always thought my SAA in .38-40 with the belt full of shells would be super cool.... 8)

Virginia is an open carry state and a ccw state like Michigan. I carry a 1911 or 9mm open. Like perazzi, I generally carry concealed.
