I have an old Remington 788 bolt action rifle that is probably 40 years old. It is 222 caliber and will drive tacks. I can't find much information on this rifle and was wondering if anyone knew anything about it?

The Remington model 788 was introduced as an economy alternative to the model 700. Much to Remington's embarrassment it usually outshot the 700s. I currently have 2, both in 7mm08. The last year produced was 1983 or 1984, depending on who you talk to.

Thanks for the information stalkingbear. I knew it was an economy model as it has external locking lugs. It really will drive tacks. People are always amazed at it.
