Howdy folks. I've been looking for a shooting forum that stays pretty much on-topic but isn't so tightly moderated that you can't have a little fun too. After lurking for a bit, it seems like I might have found a new home!

I'm, ahhhhhh, a "mature" individual, I've been shooting since about 1965, maybe a little earlier. Started out with a Remington single shot .22 and .22 shorts, moved on to trap, skeet, and paper targets.

Didn't grow up in a hunting family, but have hunted a bit.

Not all that competitive by nature so most of my shooting falls into the "plinking" category, altho I have shot PPC, and achieved and maintained Expert qualification with the 1911A1 and M14 while in the Navy (retired, 22 years)

Prefer handguns, about equally divided between wheelguns and self-shuckers, mostly .22s, .38/.357, .45ACP and just recently started playing with .45 Colt.

I reload for all my centerfire handguns, plus .243, .308, and 12 and 20 gauge scatterguns.

Looking forward to learning a lot, contributing when I can, and having a little fun.

Welcome to the forum... 'Maine'... is that up NE of Texarkana??

"Tightly Moderated"... don't say this too often...
BullsEye thinks he runs a Tight-Ship around here!

appears you have been shooting long enough to have a little
'ringing in your ears' (also)...

we "talk" about anything that goes 'Bang!'...
but center around the Ruger MK pistols... Got One?
No?? then get-one (2,3,4...)

have a good weekend, looking forward to your posts, comments, contributions.

Eh? What's that ya say? Ringling? No, I don't do circuses...

Ayuh, it's possible to get quite a bit North of where I am and stay in the lower 48, but if you go much further east, ya gotta start speaking Canadian, eh?

Yeah, I noticed the MK II thing. As it happens, I do have one. Picked it up used, Aimpoint and a Clark trigger. Never had to do anything but shoot it, and it is SWEET!

Also got a Single Six with a BSA red dot (noticing a trend here?) My old eyes and iron sights aren't all that compatible.

Toy of the Moment is a Blackhawk in .45 Colt. MAN that thing is fun to shoot. Playing with various combinations ranging from 6 gr. of Unique to 18 of 2400 just to see what it will do. The hot ones remind me a great deal of my Dirty Harry days with a 629 and full-woot .44 mags...
An empty weapon is just a very expensive hammer.

Welcome to Guntalk-Online Downeaster! I'm sure you'll fit in well here on this forum. There's a great bunch of folks here and they like having fun in the threads. I'm sure you noticed that a little good ribbing is OK but nobody gets personal or takes things too personally. Since I'm the only moderator, I do it in moderation, that is - tight enough to keep the spammers out but loose enough for everyone to enjoy themselves.

Maine eh! I bet where you're from you know all about the "Battle of the maps." I'd think you do a lot of indoor shooting as the weather isn't all that cooperative for outdoor shooting up there as I recall.

Sounds like you have a nice collection. I do a lot of Ruger 22 auto discussions as there aren't a lot of people who specialize in them. I like the 22 Rugers and since they're a bargain, a lot of folks have them. Unfortunately they can be a little quirky in the maintenance/cleaning department. Some folks get frustrated by that and I try to help them through it.

Happy shooters means more people playing the game. Which is another reason why red dot sights are keeping more "seasoned" shooters out and enjoying their firearms.

I'm looking forward to swapping stories and I'm sure you'll do well here at our little forum.

Welcome again.

R,
