Anyone dabble in the Olympic shooting sports ?

I have a TOZ that I shoot 50 meter Free Pistol and an Izzy for 10 meter air pistol.

A little different than BE but basically the same.
Iron sights only.

My personal bests are 492 in Free Pistol and 548 in air pistol.

I do a little 10m AP. There are no AP competitions near. I shoot for personal. I also like to shoot it outdoors at 25yds for irons practice.

I shoot some 10 meter air pistol and some Int. 3 pos smallbore rifle. I've always wanted to give free pistol a try.

Gotta love those Izzys. I started using mine in 2000 when I started getting serious about getting a distinguished badge. Rougher than a cob on the outside, but what a trigger. I had mind down to a consistent 4 oz and any shot out of the x wasn't the fault of the pistol. I burned through a lot of pellets the first three years, quit the caffeine :( , took a hoofing rasp to the grip and got fairly proficient with it, low to mid 560's.

Then I went distinguished, reintroduced myself to the wonders of overdosing on caffeine :):):) , and promptly quit shooting air. The last time I shot AP was a year and a half ago and I barely broke 500 (but I had my caffeine :):):).

Life is good.

Stork;

I love it when in competition other shooters are firing their $2K air pistols while I am firing my $325. Izzy

They generally beat me by about 10-15 points.
Mainly because they have been doing it at lot more cause I focus on BE and just dabble in Olympic stuff.
I have only shot air pistol 3 times in the last year.
During the winter I practice in by back yard at ten meters.

These guns are awesome for the price.
You have to stroke it everytime, but what the hell.

I took a Dremel to my grip, not much cause I have pretty large hands, just made some finger grooves.
I actually use an Extra large Rinks grip on my Free pistol.

I went in with a fine file and what I want to call very light emery cloth, basically jewlers rouge imbeded in cloth to polish the trigger and sear.

Has a very good trigger and points well.
Like you said, if the shot is not an X, it is not the pistols fault.

Oh, by the way, congrats on the new grand baby.
I have three grand children of my own.
They are a lot of fun.
