Cleaning Brushes

Has anyone noticed that our cleaning brushes are getting smaller, diameter wise. The last new 38/359/9mm brush I picked up was very loose in the bore and does not even brushes the bore on my Sig 299 9mm. I have noticed this with Hoppe's and Otters. I've had to go to a 40 cal or a rifle brush to clean the bore on my 9mm guns. I'm guessing they are trying to save that 0.002" of brush to increase their profits.

Most all of them are made in China these days. Maybe they're using shorter rulers to cheat everybody on everything and bolster their economy?...............

I'm thinking this is more likely because they use the metric system and conversions between it and US customary measures are a slight bit different.

obviously you overscrubbed your bore and it is too big now

Yep, and I can't point the barrel downward because the bullets will fall right out, cases and all.
Really makes it tough when I carry with the pistol in the front of my waistband.

Maybe that time you used the brush with a drill, and 10,000 rpm was a little too fast?..........

My Sig 229 came from the factory over sized. Slugged at 0.357" for a 9mm. It has been a pain to clean ever since I have owned it. Very accurate gun even with the over size bore. My UCII 45acp cleans up with the use solvent patch on a jag, no brush required most of the time. If all my hand guns cleaned that easy it would be a nice.
ruger22, When you spin your brush unsupported that fast make sure you have eye protection on.

I have the same issue with my BHP, the 9mm barrel is actually .357" diameter. This has given me some very inconsistent shot placement, even key-holing with lead nosed bullets until I realized what was going on. When I started using .357-.358" lead round nosed bullets the key-holing disappeared and accuracy-wise the groupings shrunk considerably.
