Dummies at airports

Heard today that the TSA had finished a security summary for 2014.

2021 firearms were found in carry-on luggage, and 80 percent of them were loaded.

Are these people really responsible enough to be handling guns anyway?? The popular excuse is that they forgot, or didn't know, that the gun was in the bag. That simple mistake can cost them up to ten grand, ten years in jail, and loss of all gun rights. I think that's a special kind of stupid.

What people do and what the say they do are usually never the same. I agree the risk is not worth the consequences, but TSA isn't the sharpest organization nor do they always employ the best and brightest either.

I had a mini swiss army knife in my pocket while going thru security a few years ago. Amazing how I forgot it because I'm usually paranoid with checking and rechecking to make sure I get everything right. Nothing was made of it by TSA, like it happens all the time. He did say that people do this often. Into the collection bin it went.

I know when I'm carrying a firearm. A pocket knife is different. I always carry one. Going through a TSA check is rare enough for me that I remember to check what I'm carrying before I get there. I'm surprised that other people "forget" what they have. I think TSA has relaxed some of the pocket knife restrictions. But on my last trip, the Swiss Army knife went into checked luggage.

Several summers ago, my wife and I were visiting New York City.. (on my company's dime). Our tourist aganda included a ferry ride out to the Statue of Liberty. I was not expecting to have to go through a metal detector to board the ferry. They found my red, 1 inch long Victorinox (aka Swiss army) pen knife. You all know the one with the single tiny blade, tweezers and plastic toothpick. I had an option to go away and come back without it (and catch a later ferry) or leave it with them until I came back from Liberty Island. I donated it to their stash of confiscated stuff.

My wife fussed about why I did not leave it in the hotel room. My feeble reply: I forgot I had it and who would expect a metal detector at the Battery Park ferry? It cost less then $10 as I recall. I am not sure if they were TSA employees...?

I think that it is a special kind of stupid where you give up your rights in order to use public transportation.

"Gun-free zones" are terrorist and nutcase magnets, created by authoritarian dip-tards who generally do not have enough sense to wipe their own bums.

Common internet knowledge that one weapon they'd miss is a sharpened credit card, gift card, whatever. I don't think TSA ever goes through people's wallets. Yet they worry about a one-inch Swiss Army knife? Nail clippers are now okay, if I heard right. That is so comforting, that I can trim my pinkies before someone slices my jugular with an old Master Card.

I never take my pen that has a mini-Swiss Army Knife on it or the pen that looks like a .375 cartridge. I'm sure neither of those dangerous weapons would make it through.

After all, the Swiss Army pen is probably mightier than the sword.
