what to do when it's too hot to go shooting

I usually spend Saturday mornings treating my PADD (pistol attention deficit disorder) at the range. The weather forecast for today was about 100. My main chore was some tinkering on my daughter's car that she tested the rear bumper height on an Explorer last week. Other than Chilton's describing radiator removal for a totally different car and the "U wrench it junkyard" having two matching cars, both with the hoods disappearing as I got there, everything went well.

Notes: I really should get the A/C recharged in the Ranger.
Dry-firing is much better than radiator removal.
It's probably never too hot to go shooting.

I don't know - to me there's nothing worse than just getting ready to break a shot and a big bead of sweat rolls down your forehead and directly into your aiming eyeball, especially when you're shooting Highpower rifle and your coated up, all slung in, and the clock's running.

I know the Virginia weather can be as swealtering as Memphis, NewOrleans,
and Houston... but... usually not for as long of a stretch...
Growing up in W.Texas... I learned to do most everything with my
right-hand... while holding a Qt.jar of Iced-Tea in my left-hand

I lived in New Orleans, and was thinking that it would be a cool day in Iraq. 20 years in Michigan tends to soften one up.

When you youngster sget smarter like us old guys you will use and indoor range with climate \e control like we do. And with automated target carriers ther is no COD rnage tiem.

Was working on getting smarter today. Got the bug to do it today and should have packed the range bag and enjoyed the day. Wrong weather to discover once again that the automakers get bonuses for making parts hard to get to.

When you say W.Texas do you mean it? I'm out here in El Paso. Just wondering because most people start saying "West Texas" as soon as they hit Abiline, and that's not even the middle of the darned state. Just wondering if I have a shooting buddy out here somewhere.

we had the wettest May+June+July ... "on record"... in the DFW area.
yes, BullsEye... the sprinkler never went on the roof this year... !!

I did not personally have "rain/storm" problems, but it was only due
to the particular slope of the land and specific location, as there was
serious damage within a 10mi radius on several occassions...

The DFW area "seems" to have gone beyond it's June+July Monsoon-Season,
but SanAntonio was hit-again just the other day with 6-8" of rain...
and my 'Uncle on the Ranch" (in the WFalls-Abilene-Lubbock "void")
received some 6" in 24hrs about a week ago...
I told him to quit trying to raise those Herfords and try CatFish-Farming!!

So, I've been lucky, personally... but it has been an unusual year...
then again... 1980 was "unusual"... 100+ days over 100F...
(that's when I learned to put a lawn sprinkler on the roof)...
I guess it's one of the 'advantages' of living for a while...
you have experienced a few "extremes"...

I can remember putting a can of beans on a rock and shooting for a few hours and then eating the now 'hot' beans for lunch and then returning to shooting after.

That was not hot... it was 'convenient'

Oh yea, the last time I was out in the Gulf region it was 130*f mid-day in July and that wasn't a bit of fun. I'm glad I'm not out there now. It's easy to forget no matter how bad you got it, there's always somebody else who's got it a lot worse.

We can shoot in as many or few articles of clothing as we like, while those who volunteered to protect our basic freedoms are all trussed up and weighted down whenever they are doing their thing.

I too am so very thankful I am not out there in it anymore. Not saying I am too old mind you, just more lazy.

Most definitely, my oldest grandson just graduated from high school in June and shipped off to Seal boot camp on the 14th of this month. Help ma and Bear and I pray for his safety. He passed allt he tests to make the Seal Challenge earlier this summer. I know he will be a great Seaal as the\at is his goal.
