Colt Day at the Pit

Post by Downeaster » Sat Aug 09, 2008 4:44 pm

Been working a lot of OT the last 3 weeks, finally got a weekend off.

Took four guns to the pit. Fired a 30 round Bullseye string with my Combat Commander with reasonable results considering how often I shoot. I'd forgotten how nice the trigger is on that thing, first couple of shots surprised me. Plinked the rest of the box at my 6" swinging plates.

Fired 20 rounds of hot .45 Long Colt out of my Blackhawk to double check some issues I had last time I fired it. No problems this time. Last time the cylinder pin backed out (may not have latched it firmly after I cleaned it) and had cylinder rotation/cocking problems which were due to an ill-advised attempt to lighten the trigger on it. Several sources said "Take one side of the trigger spring off it's post, Instant Trigger Job!" Maybe so, but not on mine.

Finally I put a hundred rounds or so through my Colt Ace conversion on a Government frame. Decent accuracy, excellent function. GAWDAWFUL trigger. Gonna have to save my sheckels and get it to a 'smith for a little trigger work.

All in all, a most satisfying couple of hours.

P.S. Fourth toy was my Single Six with the red dot. That thing is about as much fun as it's legal to have. Can't hardly miss on purpose from 25 yards.
An empty weapon is just a very expensive hammer.

Sounds like you had a successful round of relaxation therapy.
