Any one own a Kimber 1911?

I am looking at the new Custom II Family, specifically the Stainless TLE/RL II (Tritium Night Sights and Picatinny Rail).
I wondered if any one out there had any pros or cons.

Bullseye, any thoughts?

Kimbers always have nice looking guns. I don't own any myself. I've always thought they were a little pricey but I do custom 1911 work and build most of those features into my guns. If you're not going to have one custom built, then going with production gun like Kimber is a good alternative. Typically there's a long lead time for a custom build 1911. I only make around a dozen a year and almost all my customers are military competitive shooters. I have a huge waiting list myself, as do many custom builders, so if you're itching to get one now the Kimber's the best bet.

I plan to shoot my brother-in-law's .45 SA 1911 this weekend first - just to make sure I'm comfortable shooting a 45 caliber gun (biggest thing we have now is a 9mm Glock).

If that works then there may be a Kimber in my future! If I get one, I'm also planning on getting the Kimber 22 conversion kit at the same time (unless you think someone else's is better?)

Own 2 Kimber CDP's, 3" and 4" models. They shoot better than I do and to date I never had a single FTF or FTE problem. I feel for the price you are getting a very nice pistol without the wait of a custom gun.

Eddie, here's a pic of my two Kimber Pro Carry II's. The stainless is a .45 and the black oxide is a 9mm. Both have Tru-Glo tritium sights and the 9mm has the TFO's. Both have Hogue cocobolo grips and trigger jobs at 3.5 lbs. Other than that, they are stock. The .45 is my CCW and the 9mm is primarily a range gun (cheaper to shoot than the .45) Note that the .45 has the external extractor. Some people think they're less reliable than the internals but I've never had any problems with mine. For the money, I think Kimbers are hard to beat. I've owned Colt and Springfield 1911's and the Kimbers are certainly comparable in my opinion.

Thanks for the responses Tbag, and Blindpig! With your and Bullseye's positive responses, I ordered my Kimber today.

I'm getting the Custom TLE/RL II in Stainless Steel. My dealer already had the 22 cal conversion in Black, which somebody had returned (because they couldn't figure out how to assemble it!). So I bought that today. Now when I put it on, I'll have a Two Tone Kimber when I shoot 22s!

If you want some advice on mags, I wouldn't use anything but Wilson Combat 47D's for a .45.

I usually buy my mags from Brownell's. The Wilsons are about $30 + shipping which may seem a little steep but they are really quality parts with a self-lubing, synthetic follower and Wolff springs. I've never experienced a failure related to the magazine when I'm using them.

I've had good results with 4 Novak/ACT and 4 CMC 8rd mags. They feed everything in my 5" Kimber Custom Target, can't ask for much else.

all the people i know with 1911s that use anything other than chip mccormick or wilson combat seem to have jamming problems and found to be traced back to the magazines. i use wilsons in both my kimbers.

I use the stock magazaine that came with my Kimber Custombuilt back in 1997, had shot at least 20K of my own reloads through it, and never had any problem traceable to the mag. In fact my only problem with the gun itself is a rare FTExtract, probably caused by a chamber that needs cleaning up again, as I only deep-clean once in a blue moon.

I love my Kimber. It's SN has four figures only starting with 6. And nary a wiggle to it, tight as ever With tight groups too.

I myself only use McCormick or Wilson mags in all my 1911s. I've not had a single problem so I'll stick with what works. CDNN has Wilson 7 rounders at 19.99 right now and I just ordered a half-dozen for my Kimber Tactical Pro...
